Therapeutic Community

The Therapeutic Community (TC) helps adults with felony convictions succeed by providing a safe place to live while receiving residential treatment.

The TC started in February 1998 at the Adult Residential Center. It is a long-term residential drug treatment program, typically for 6 or more months, for people who have substance use disorders and have a criminal record.

The TC is a court-ordered program for both men and women. During the TC program, staff and community volunteers provide a range of services and activities for clients. Licensed TC staff provide mental health counseling at the center, and crisis counseling is available through a partnership with Johnson County Mental Health.

The TC includes a reentry phase in which clients receive assistance with job seeking and may begin working in the community while still living at the TC. They are required to complete a relapse-prevention program during the reentry phase. They still maintain full access to individual counseling.
