Pollinator Prairie welcomes monarchs
Monarch butterfly season is here. In celebration of the annual journey south, Johnson County Extension Master Naturalists and Monarch Watch are hosting “Hasta Luego Monarchs” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Pollinator Prairie, 320 South Blake St., Olathe.
The free event includes live butterfly tagging demonstrations by Monarch Watch and a popular “Caterpillar Wonders” exhibit by Extension Master Gardeners.
Extension Master Naturalists, known as “nestbox stewards,” will feature information on bird conservation efforts and how to support birds. Additional displays include native bees, milkweed, water quality, rain barrels and more. Native plants will be available for purchase.
