PBS shines a spotlight on caregiving
AHS Director Tim Wholf, left on stage, participated in a PBS panel in a special on “The Invisible Army: Caregivers in KC.”
The Johnson County Area Agency on Aging was prominently featured in recent regional conversations about caregiving and the critical need to support caregivers.
In April, a Kansas City PBS producer reached out to interview JCAAA staff for a documentary on caregiving.
Johnson County Aging and Human Services Director Tim Wholf; Nancy Luber, AAA Mental Health clinician; and Jalie Uzynski, Eligibility and Options specialist at AHS, shared their insights during the interview.
The resulting documentary, “Caregivers in KC: A Community of Care,” premiered on June 25. The film spotlights two key organizations – JCAAA and the PACE KC program at Swope Health – helping individuals remain in their homes for as long as possible.
Additionally, on June 19, FlatlandKC published an article titled “Caregiving Squeezes Households Between Young and Old,” featuring comments by Wholf. The article explores the growing pressures faced by the “sandwich generation,” involving adults simultaneously caring for aging parents and raising children.
Wholf also participated in a panel discussion on aging and caregiving in Kansas City, moderated by PBS host Nick Haines. This discussion aired as part of the PBS special “The Invisible Army: Caregivers in KC.” The special began broadcasting on June 26.
The documentary, article and PBS special can be found on kansascitypbs.org. The documentary and article are located on the Flatland section of the webpage.
