Nutrition Program spotlights staff changes

Accessing healthy food or preparing nutritious meals can be challenging for many older adults.
Every day, one million older adults in the United States face hunger. The risk of malnutrition increases with age due to factors such as decreased appetite, limited mobility and health conditions.
The Johnson County Area Agency on Aging’s Nutrition Program plays a vital role in improving the health and well-being of older adults by providing not only meals, but also social connections and support.
The impact of the Nutrition Program extends beyond nutrition.
For those receiving home-delivered meals, the daily visit from a volunteer offers companionship and a sense of connection. At Neighborhood Nutrition Centers, older adults can enjoy a meal with friends, fostering relationships and community engagement. These social interactions help reduce loneliness and improve overall well-being.
Behind this essential service is a dedicated team of 26 staff members. They serve meals at seven Neighborhood Nutrition Centers, deliver meals to homebound older adults, coordinate volunteers, pack meals for delivery and assist recipients and families. Their work ensures that older adults in Johnson County receive both the nourishment and support they need.
The Nutrition Program’s leadership team recently welcomed new roles.
They include Dyani Kallauner, who has been with the program for 10 years, as program manager; Hayley Piller, who joined in 2023, as program supervisor; and Jessica Cigard, who was recently hired, as program coordinator.
“It has been an honor to work alongside the outstanding staff in the Nutrition Program. Our community benefits from the quality work they provide daily to improve the lives of those we serve,” Dyani said.
