New fitness classes set to start on mats, in pool at Roeland Park
New fitness opportunities at the Roeland Park Community Center are designed to help participants move smarter and build strength.
Pilates on the Mat focuses on building strength from the inside out. This low-impact, full-body workout uses only body weight to strengthen the core and improve flexibility.
It’s ideal for individuals who want to move better and feel stronger. This monthly recurring class begins at 5:15 p.m. on the first Monday of each month, beginning on May 4. Cost varies.
For those who enjoy exercising in the water, two new water fitness classes are coming in June.
Aquacize offers a gentle, joint-friendly workout that uses the natural buoyancy and resistance of water to boost cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and build muscle strength. It’s a low-impact option for all fitness levels, including individuals with arthritis or mobility concerns. Sessions begin at 6 p.m. June 2. Each session includes four 50-minute classes. Costs are $35 for Johnson County residents/$38 for nonresidents.
Looking for something more upbeat? Aqua Zumba® brings high-energy, dance-based cardio to the pool. Set to lively music, this class delivers a workout while remaining easy on the body. Beginning at 6 p.m. June 3, each session includes four 50-minute classes. Cost is $35 for residents, $38 for nonresidents.
Aquacize and Aqua Zumba classes take place during regular pool hours. Preregistration is required by calling 913-831-3359.
