Library plans open house to celebrate Genealogy Day
Johnson County Library and the Johnson County Genealogical Society invite you to explore your family history. They make genealogy easy to understand and fun for everyone.
On Saturday, March 28, join them for the Genealogy Day Open House & Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Resource Library, 9875 W. 87th St., Overland Park.
The event is free and open to the public. Whether you’re just starting your family tree or have been researching for years, you’ll find helpful guidance and hands-on support.
You can attend hour-long talks like “Getting Started in Genealogy,” “A Guide to Using Ancestry.com” and “Military Research Simplified.” Presenters will demonstrate how to use online tools, DNA testing and historical records.
See Memory Lab demos on digitizing old photos, slides and home movies. Join the “Oral History Workshop,” led by the Midwest Genealogy Center, to learn how to record your family stories.
JCGS volunteers are ready to help year-round at the Library’s Genealogy Desk (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday). They can also provide one-on-one guidance on research or DNA questions, in person or via Zoom by appointment.
