The Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) in Olathe, KS, has 40 beds for young people ages 10 to 17. It is a secure facility where the court holds youth while they wait for a hearing, state custody placement, placement into a Kansas State Juvenile Correctional Facility, or release back to legal guardians.

The JDC is also home to the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center (JIAC), where police drop off juvenile offenders for assessment. Upon arrival, JIAC staff complete a brief screening to determine safety, supervision needs and appropriate next steps.
