Farmstead adds garden of hostas

The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead has added one of three American Hosta Society display gardens in Kansas and the first of its kind in the Kansas City area.

The unique garden will be formally dedicated at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the farmstead, 13800 Switzer Road, Overland Park. The requirements for an AHS designation include displaying and maintaining at least 100 varieties of hostas.

A grant from the Johnson County Extension Education Foundation funded the project. The hosta display garden involved the collaboration of Master Gardeners, the farmstead and the City of Overland Park.
