Classes enhance fitness

The Johnson County Park and Recreation  District’s 50 Plus program is welcoming the new year with a variety of fitness classes available across multiple locations in the district.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., for all their yoga needs! Activities include an ongoing Restorative Yoga Class as well as a new Balance and Core Yoga class to enhance overall mobility of participants.

Restorative Yoga at 5:15 p.m. on Thursdays has sessions starting on Jan. 8 and Feb. 5. The class will focus more on holding restful poses to relax and recharge.

Balance and Core Yoga at 10 a.m. takes place on Wednesdays. Sessions start on Jan. 7 and Feb. 4. The class is designed to improve balance and strengthen core muscles.

Both classes involve four 50-minute sessions. Cost is $38/$42 nonresidents for either program.

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave, Prairie Village, is offering a new Pelvic Floor Restore class to focus on strengthening muscles that support bladder, uterus and bowels. The instructor will lead participants through gentle exercises to help promote better control and confidence.

Classes will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays with sessions starting on Jan. 7 and Feb. 4. Cost for four 30-minute sessions is $25/$28 nonresidents.

A Forever Fit class, designed to boost energy and build upper body strength, is being offered at the New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway.

Sessions at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays start on Jan. 6 and Feb. 17. Cost for five 50-minute sessions is $43/$47 nonresidents.
