Adult Residential Center
The Johnson County Department of Corrections Adult Residential Center (ARC) is a 394-bed, minimum-security facility that provides a highly structured environment for adult individuals ordered into the program by the court.
The ARC was developed over time to meet the growing need for minimum-security residential placement. Facilities were constructed in 1987, 1993, and 1997, with the addition of a new residential building in 2005 and a dedicated programs building in 2007.
The primary goal of the Adult Residential Center is to support successful reintegration into the community. Individuals may participate in a range of structured programs, including House Arrest, Work Release, the Therapeutic Community (TC), and the Problem Solving Beds (PSB) program. Additional evidence-based programming includes cognitive-behavioral interventions, substance use treatment, and life skills development, along with support for education and employment readiness.
In addition to programming, individuals receive structured supervision, drug and alcohol testing when applicable, and support through reentry planning services. Staff work to connect individuals with community resources and services that promote stability, accountability, and a successful transition back into the community.
