Healthy Yards Expo set April 13 in Shawnee
The free 12th Healthy Yards Expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Shawnee Civic Centre, 13817 Johnson Drive in Shawnee.
State of the County set April 9
Mike Kelly, chairman of the Johnson County Board of Commissioners, will present his 2024 State of County Address on Tuesday, April 9, at the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd.
Tax relief program accepts applications until April 15
The application window for a new property tax relief program for adults 65 and older who meet income requirements is now open through April 15.
Those who qualify for the program will be eligible to receive a payment of up to $200 in 2024 after the Johnson County Board of County Com missioners approved a pilot program in the 2024 budget.

Kansas Legal Services helps 60+ residents at three sites
The Johnson County Department of Aging and Human Services partners with Kansas Legal Services to offer the following services to Johnson County residents who are 60+:
Project DASH partnership provides frozen meals
Last year, Johnson County Aging and Human Services began a partnership with Door Dash’ s Project DASH, which is helping deliver meals to homebound seniors throughout Johnson County.
Volunteer spotlight shines on Kay Voorhees at SHICK
In July 2023, the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging once again began providing Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas. SHICK counseling was previously provided by the AAA until 2014. One familiar face with SHICK counseling in Johnson County is Kay Voorhees.

The Johnson County Commission on Aging will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, and April 10 in the Johnson County Medical Examiners building, 11894 S. Sunset Drive, Olathe.
Campaign celebrates Senior Nutrition Program
The annual nutrition education and information campaign is organized by the Administration of Community Living’s Administration on Aging and observed in March. Since 1972, the National Senior Nutrition Program has supported nutrition services for older adults nationwide. Funded by the Older Americans Act, these local programs serve as hubs where people 60+ find healthy meals and other vital services that strengthen social connections, promote well-being through sound eating and physical activity habits.
March is National Social Worker Month
Within the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging, there is a team of Eligibility and Options Specialists who are comprised of professionals from a variety of educational backgrounds, including social workers.

Thunderstorms, floods and tornadoes are all possible in Johnson County this time of year. Planning for how to maintain and protect your health in a natural disaster or emergency is an important but often overlooked part of the preparedness process.
