For more than 40 years, the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District has been helping residents experience the world through thoughtfully planned group travel.

Each year, we offer a wide range of tours designed to match the interests of travelers who value learning, exploration, culture and connection. From historic cities to natural wonders, the 50 Plus programs bring people together through shared experiences and memorable destinations.

Group travel is an appealing option for Johnson County travelers, offering a smooth and engaging way to explore new places. Travel with an experienced tour manager and reliable local guides who provide depth, meaning and context to each destination.

While on tour, participants can enjoy a balance of structured exploration and time at leisure to explore what interests them most.

For those who prefer not to coordinate the details or travel completely on their own, this format provides a comfortable and enjoyable alternative – one that still leaves plenty of room for independence, curiosity and discovery without having to manage all the logistics.

Looking ahead, the 2026 lineup offers an exciting selection of tours designed to spark interest and expand horizons.

Featured destinations include Mediterranean Coastal Journey, Treasures of Egypt, Christmas Markets of Montreal and Quebec City, Iceland’s Northern Lights, Antarctica: The White Continent and Hawaiian Adventure.

To help travelers learn more, a Travel Show is scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village. The program will feature an overview of each tour, insight about the itineraries and the opportunity for attendees to ask questions. Those interested may RSVP by calling 913-826-2985.

Beyond its extended tours, the 50 Plus Department also offers day trips and local experiences throughout the year.

These opportunities give travelers a chance to explore closer-to-home destinations, connect with new people and enjoy activities tailored to their interests.
